Gaidouronisi - Donkey Island

Take a boat at 10.00 am (or there about) from the quay of Ierapetra to visit this small uninhabited island 8 miles south. Boats return to Ierapetra at 5.00 pm.

A subtropical little paradise with white sand beaches, turquoise waters and a unique cedar forest. Take your scuba diving equipment as it is worth paying a visit to the beautiful underwater scenery.
There is a tavern where basic food can be had as well as plenty of fresh fish as it is the fishermen shelter.

Stay overnight on the beach and get up between two and four o' clock in the morning to meet them returning with the catch, to clean the nets, have a chat or even organize to accompany them in their next venture.

If you are lucky to make some friends this way - it is not that difficult with Greeks - you will feel privileged when invited at midday for a plate of kakavia the fish soup made with all sorts of tasty small fish, washed with some excellent local white wine.

Then again, if luck is not on your side do not despair as Niko and Kostis, the tavern owners, will fix you with the same, only here you have to pay for the privilege.
However for such a privilege prices are not high.

You can buy your tickets on board just before departure.
