THE MONUMENT OF THE BIG PORT
(Miletus)
This
monument was 18 m highand symbolized the victories won against the pirates.
It was built in 63 B.C. There used to be a large bowl
sitting on topof the monument.
This bowl was to burn the oil all the time.
Only the remains of a round foundation with four steps
can beseen today. The bowl was taken to Pergamon museum in Berlin, Germany.
