

| According to
Strabo, Lysimachus built the walls of the city in the 3rd century BC. The
walls are the finest example of the Hellensitic Period whether from the
standpoint of workmanship or protection. One of the gates was between the
stadium and the Vedius Gymnasium, called the Koressos Gate, according to
an extant inscription. This gate has not yet been excavated.
The picture above is of the Lower Gate. There are numerous shops under the trees that surround the gate. |
